Title: Little Brother
ttto: Little Boxes by Malvina Reynolds

Little Brother, always watching.
Little Brother, in the TV set.
Little Brother, on the smart phone.
Little Brother, everywhere.
On the free sites, via click bait,
And espec'lly social media,
And they all are always watching,
And you've sold yourselves to them.

Google cookies track your searches
And link them with your YouTube posts
And they sell them in big batches
To whoever pays the most:
Advertisers and employers,
Governmental agencies,
And they all are always watching
And they all know what you do.

You use Facebook as your diary,
And mention the minutest things.
Little Brother's always watching;
Data never goes away.
When you grow up, all your children
Will know the dumb things you did
And how, then, will you parent
Trying still to keep them safe?

All your secrets are not secret
'Cause AI reads the data sets
And by tracking all your footsteps
It's aware of all you know.
If you're pregnant or you're closeted,
It might blab to friends and relatives.
And the ads that it is showing
Prove that it knows everything.

Little Brother, always watching.
Little Brother, using cookie codes,
Active scripting, MAC addresses,
Image beacons, and much more.
If the site's free, what's the product?
What's the value of your privacy?
For they all are always watching,
And you've sold your lives to them.

Guessing a lyricist's opinions from his songs is as futile as
guessing an author's opinions from his novels.

Yup - good one!

Leastwise most of what gets through my ad filters suggests they have no
CLUE of what I am interested in... :)

At my next physical, the doctor probably won't look at my body, but will
say, "Your Facebook count is low. That's good. But your Usenet is high.
That's a common symptom of old age."

Alas, too true.
